Braemar Hospital Ltd operates an Infection Control Programme that includes the application of standard precautions and surveillance of post-operative wound infections

Isolation and MDROs

The Infection Prevention and Control policies at Braemar Hospital include the practice of standard precautions and utilisation of additional isolation procedures for patients with Multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) such as MRSA, ESBLs and VRE. We meet or exceed the national Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard for infection prevention and control.

If your patient is due to come to Braemar Hospital and you have concerns about particular infection relevant to them, or you know they already have an MDRO, we encourage pre-admission notification – simply email us on quality@braemarhospital.co.nz with the patient’s name and NHI. We may also ask the patient to undertake testing before they are admitted.

Surveillance of post-operative wound infection

If one of your patients develops signs and symptoms of a surgical site infection following recent surgery at Braemar Hospital, we would appreciate you taking a wound swab and notifying us on email at quality@braemarhospital.co.nz

If you would like to contact us directly, email the Quality and Risk Manager on quality@braemarhospital.co.nz or phone 07 858 6368.
