Patients covered by ACC
Braemar Hospital has three contracts with ACC. The price for treatment is most often fully covered by the fee received from ACC. ACC will inform the patient of any exception to this.
1. Clinical Services Contract:
Specialist Assessment: Upon the initial referral from a GP to a vocationally registered medical specialist (for contact details click here), each patient will be assessed for treatment and, if appropriate, the specialist will apply to ACC for approval for that treatment.
GP referral to this service must be via a vocationally registered specialist who is listed on the ACC contract.
Once the specialist has made the assessment, and ACC approval for treatment has been gained, your patient will be booked for surgery under the following contract:
2. Surgical Services Contract:
Surgical Treatment: Once approval for surgery has been received from ACC, our specialist will arrange a suitable time for surgery at a Braemar hospital.
You will receive a written report from the specialist upon completion of the surgery.
More details can be obtained via the ACC website
3. Interventional Pain Services:
Our Pain Management Service provides assessment and treatment services (epidural steroid injection therapy) under this contract.
In the first instance, GP referral to this service must be via a vocationally registered clinician (Anaesthetics, Medical Occupational Medicine, Muscoskeletal Medicine, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Rheumatology).
Once this has been done, and the claim accepted by ACC, subsequent referrals may be made directly to the Pain Management Service:
- Assessment: Our pain specialists will assess your patient for treatment and, if appropriate, apply to ACC for approval for that treatment.
- Treatment: This service currently provides an epidural steroid injection service.
You will receive a written report from the pain specialist upon completion of the treatment.
This service also accepts non ACC patients on a fee-for-service basis.
In order to meet the appropriate College recommendations and guidelines, the service is hospital, rather than rooms, based.
